John Barrus
Business and Estate Planning Attorney

Experience
From 1980-1982, Mr. Barrus served as the general and cost accounting supervisor of the Scientific Instruments Division of Hewlett Packard Company, in Palo Alto, California. He reported directly to the division controller.

In 1985, Mr. Barrus joined McCormick, Barstow, Shephard, Wayte and Carruth as a transactions associate. In 1987, he joined Christensen, Bacigalupi and Montoy and became a partner with Christensen and Barrus, Inc. in 1989.  In 2001, he and Mr. Roberts formed Barrus and Roberts, P.C.

Over more than twenty years, Mr. Barrus has advised hundreds of clients in the formation, operation, and sale of their businesses, including tax considerations, ranging from small startups to multi-million dollar businesses.  He has formed hundreds of general and limited partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies and limited liability partnerships.

He has prepared hundreds of simple and complex estate plans, including simple and sophisticated trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance health directives, business and other estate planning entities. He has advised clients in the administration of decedent estates, including probate. He is a sworn Fresno County pro tem probate judge.

Associations and Interests
Mr. Barrus was admitted to the California Bar in 1985 and the Utah Bar in 1986. Since 1994, he has been a Certified Specialist in Probate, Estate and Trust Law,  State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He has been a Certified Public Accountant (Inactive, State of Washington) since 1981. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Fresno-Madera Alzheimer's Association.  For more than 40 years, Mr. Barrus has been a registered member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America. He is an Eagle Scout. He is a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is married and has five children.

Greg Roberts
Business and Estate Planning Attorney

Experience
Mr. Roberts has practiced in California since 1989. He limits his practice to corporate and business planning, estate planning and administration and probate and estate litigation.

Associations and Interests
Mr. Roberts was admitted to the California Bar in 1989. He is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court, Eastern District of California. He is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Parker has worked in probate and estate planning for almost thirty years and has been employed by Barrus and Roberts, P.C., or its predecessor since 1985.

In 1996, she graduated from the paralegal certification program at American River College, Sacramento, California.

Vernelle Parker
Business and Estate Planning Paralegal

 

Ms. Robinson studied accounting at Brigham Young University, Marymount University (Virginia) and Northern Virginia Community College. In February, 2003, she received her Paralegal certificate from San Joaquin College of Law in Clovis, California.

In 1998, she joined the predecessor to Barrus and Roberts, P.C.  Previously, she had worked for ten years in the accounting department of Beneficial Life Insurance in Salt Lake City, Utah.
